Spigot, Inc. Mobile Team Goes to Romania: An Employee’s Story

As most of you probably already know – Spigot, Inc. is across the globe. We are owned by a company based out of Beijing, China, have several offices in the US and another office in Bucharest, Romania. Many Spigot, Inc. employees are fortunate enough to be able to travel to these locations for work purposes (and even extend their trips to see other parts of the world!). This past week our Mobile Team made the long 20 hour journey to work on their product with the Spigot, Inc. Romanian team. Spigot, Inc.’s, Elina Terentevya, documented the whole trip and gave us the run down below!

Elina:

I was fortunate enough to be one of the members of the mobile team to take a trip to Bucharest, Romania to work with our IOS team. While Spigot makes sure our communication is possible through all the technology provided, there is nothing better than meeting and working side by side. After a few take offs and landings, many movies on the plane, lots of laughs, and many many snacks, we were finally there!

As we landed we decided to go straight to the office to get started. The Ro team greeted us with open arms and most importantly donuts. I have tasted a lot of donuts in my life, but nothing compared to these. Papanasi, as they are called in Romania, were perfect round spheres, and exactly what we needed for a quick pick me up before diving right in to work with the team. A perfect Romanian welcome in my opinion.

The evening followed by a team dinner at Grand Café Van Gogh. The café was so unique, with Van Gogh replicas hanging all across the wall painted by local artists, funky umbrellas hanging from the ceiling, and nachos that were out of this world.

I honestly don’t even know where to begin about the food. It never stopped, and each place was better than the last. The bread, the wine, the humus, the baba ganoush, the kabobs, the shawarmas, all the meats, and my personal favorite mamaliga. Everything tasted even better than it looked, if that’s even possible!

Another night we went to a traditional Romanian restaurant, called Hanu’ lui Manuc, we ate, we drank, and we fully embraced the Romanian culture. 2 meters of beer, authentic Romanian food, endless donuts, Moldavian dancers, the Eastern European culture is just something else.

We were also lucky enough, some may not agree with me, to see a fresh snow fall. The snow just kept falling transforming this unique city of Bucharest in to a winter wonderland. Snow balls were made and exchanged.

Working at Spigot, Inc. gives employees an amazing opportunity to experience different cultures, whether it’s in our own office or travelling abroad.
